He Had No Experience… But Built a Robot That Solves Mazes on Its Own

A first-year student built a maze-solving robot from scratch—using Python and Raspberry Pi Pico—and stunned everyone at a national robotics competition. While others played safe, he took risks, made mistakes, and still managed to finish in the top 5.From a childhood curiosity to a real bot solving real mazes—this is what raw passion and self-learning look like.Watch the full story now on our YouTube channel!

How to Build a Quadruped Robot? | First-Year Robotics Students Explain

Meet Raj, Rishit, and Izaz – first-year CS & AI students from Newton School of Technology – Bangalore, who built a fully functional quadruped robot from scratch.A quadruped robot is a four-legged walking machine inspired by animals like dogs and horses. Unlike regular vehicles, it can navigate rough and uneven terrain – making it useful in real-world applications like search and rescue, exploration, and more. What went into the build:ㆍThey designed the robot using inverse kinematics and crawl gate mechanics – the math that tells each leg exactly where to move and whenㆍThey coded it  in Embedded C on an Arduino Uno – the brain behind every movement the robot makesㆍThe robot controls 12 servo motors simultaneously via a PWM servo motor driver – giving each leg precise, coordinated movementㆍAlong the way, the team also picked up CAD modeling and PCB design using KiCAD – skills that came directly from building this prototype as a part of their first semester robotics project.Behind this build is NST-SVYASA's robotics culture – state-of-the-art lab access, mentors who specialize in robotics and bring real-world experience into every session, and a philosophy that puts simulation and hands-on building above theory. Students here don't just learn robotics. They're given the freedom to own it.

From zero confidence to a bot that balances itself.🤖

In just 2 weeks, these students turned curiosity into a self balancing bot.🦿🦾There were coding errors, hardware struggles, late night debugging and moments where nothing worked. But there was also learning, teamwork, real engineering decisions and that feeling when the bot finally stayed upright.Presenting it in front of the founder felt unreal, but hearing real feedback made it even better🙌There’s a different kind of happiness when your first build actually works. It’s not about perfection, it’s about realizing: we can actually do this💪Now the conversations are already about building something bigger, smarter and more challenging next.Every engineer remembers their first successful project. This one will stay with them.🥹

He Built a Spy Rover for the Indian Army | First Year in Robotics

What makes a first-year student think about solving problems for the Indian Army? 🤔For Bikash Jha, a first-year student at Newton School of Technology–SVYASA, Bengaluru, it started with a simple thought:Soldiers and agents often risk their lives entering enemy territories to gather information. What if a small robot could go instead? That idea turned into a spy military exploration rover! 💡Built using an ESP32 microcontroller, DC motors, and an ESP32 camera, the rover can stream real-time footage to a remote device, helping monitor environments from a safe distance. It also features a gripper mechanism that can pick or remove objects from its path, making it more than just a surveillance machine.Powered by lithium-ion batteries and designed as a mobile exploration robot, the project pushed Bikash to learn robotics hands-on, from electronics and control systems to building and integrating different components.First year doesn't mean small projects or simple ideas. At Newton School of Technology, it means real builds, real problems, and students who are already thinking about the world they want to engineer. 🚀

This Spider-Bot Goes Where Most Rovers Can't | First Year in Robotics

Most rovers FAIL on rough terrain. Atul Sahu, first-year student of B.Tech in CS & AI at Newton School of Technology-SVYASA, Bangalore, found his inspiration in the movements of nature's best walker — the spider. That inspiration became a fully functional quadruped robot built to crawl through the kind of terrain and tight spaces rovers can't access. The four-legged robot reads its environment in real time through an IR sensor and an ultrasonic sensor, adjusting all 12 motors on the fly — moving exactly the way a spider would. The use cases Atul has in mind are anything but small — surveillance, rescue operations, and military applications. First year doesn't mean small projects or simple ideas. At NST, it means real builds, real problems, and students who are already thinking about the world they want to engineer. 🚀
